Gionee Elife S5.5 comes in an amazingly slim profile (5.5 mm) and a loaded specification sheet. This device scores great for its looks and aesthetics. It offers a 5″ Super AMOLED display with 1080p resolution amounting to 441 ppi pixel density with Gorilla Glass 3 protection on front and back. Samsung design patrons (if any) can opt for Galaxy Grand 2 which offers a Dual SIM functionality and mid range specifications. It has a 5.25″ 720p display with 280 ppi pixel density, 1.2 GHz Quad Core Cortex A7 processor, Adreno 305 Graphics, 1.5 GB RAM, 8 MP primary camera and a 1.9 MP front camera. Internal storage is 8 GB which is expendable by a MicroSD card. Battery is a 2600 mAh user replaceable unit. Despite its mid range specifications, Grand 2 is highly successful in India due to very strong marketing by Samsung and a great after sales support network pan India.
Sony Xperia ZR – Rs 19,990 (Flipkart)
Sony Xperia ZR offers a handful of unique features like IP58 certification – dust and water resistance and powerful processor in this price segment. It comes with a 4.5″ 720p display with a pixel density of 323 ppi and Bravia Mobile Engine 2, 1.5 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro Krait processor, 2 GB RAM, Adreno 320 GPU, 13 MP primary camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording, VGA front facing camera, 8 GB internal storage expandable through a MicroSD card. Battery is a user removable 2300 mAh unit. Specifications wise, this device offers good value for money due to its very powerful processor and great design along with polished TimeScape UI on top of Android.
Micromax Canvas Knight – Rs 20200 (Flipkart)
Micromax Canvas Knight comes with great specifications and looks quite appealing. It comes with a Dual SIM functionality, a 5″ 1080p IPS display with 441 ppi pixel density, 1.7 GHz Octa-core MediaTek processor, 2 GB RAM, Mali 450-MP4 Graphics unit, 16 MP Primary camera with LED Flash and 8 MP front camera for high resolution selfies and video calls. It comes with latest Android 4.4.2 out of the box and has a 2350 mAh battery unit.
Hovering around the Rs 20,000 price segment, the smartphone options become more powerful and interesting. Xperia ZR and Canvas Knight offer the most powerful processor and gaming performance while the Gionee Elife S5.5 offers the best ergonomics and design. Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is the weakest of the lot due to its mid range specifications but it offers the best after sales support network which is a major concern for consumers in Tier 2 and 3 cities.
