EMUI 4.1 Review

We spent some time with the Honor 5C and here is our EMUI 4.1 review:

The Honor 5C runs EMUI 4.1 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The interface is simple, fluid and intuitive. There are numerous customization options that you get.

It comes with a Themes app, using which you can customize the screen lock style, icons, home screen and more.

The interface lacks an app drawer but that is something we can make peace with. Swiping from top to bottom on the screen will bring down the notification bar and you can also access shortcuts.

EMUI 4.1 -1

The interface offers numerous useful features like Scroll Shot and also allows to change EMUI icons by switching themes. The Scrolling screenshots feature enables users to take screenshots longer than one screen. It also allows users to create a phone tutorial or record a game-play using the screen recording feature.

You also get some features like Flip to Mute, Floating Dock, One-Hand UI and more. Flip to Mute feature mutes sounds and vibrations from incoming calls, alarms and timers.

With the Floating Dock feature, you can access the Back, Home, Recent Tasks, Screen Lock and One touch optimisation, from a single icon on the screen.

EMUI 4.1 -3

One-Hand UI allows you to slide your finger across the navigation bar to switch between standard and mini screen views. Android Marshmallow features such as Google Now on Tap and App Permissions are also available with the Honor 5C.

There is a fingerprint sensor which sits on the rear of the phone. It is easy to configure and unlocks the phone very quickly and accurately. Besides unlocking the phone, it allows you to swipe on the sensor to browse photos, answer a call or to bring down the notifications panel.

EMUI 4.1 (11)

It also comes pre-loaded with Health app that helps users keep a track of their fitness and health. All you need to do is enter the required data in the app and the app itself will provide information related to your fitness goal, such as target weight, amount of exercise required, calorie burn count and more.

Overall software performance of the phone is very impressive. We tested all these features and it did pretty well in performing all the tasks accurately and efficiently. We did not face any issues while navigating through the home screen, running basic apps, switching from one app to another, multitasking etc.

Verdict

Most of the buyers make their buying decision based on looks and hardware of a phone.  One important factor which most smartphones buyers fail to consider is its software. User interface and overall software experience are as important as the hardware itself. The Honor 5C packs almost all the essential ingredients of a high value for money device. It is a blend of elegant design,  powerful hardware configuration and a highly efficient UI.
