Honor 8 Pro is the latest offering by Honor in India in the premium flagship category. It features a large 2K display, high-performance chipset, dual camera setup at back, large battery and top of the line craftsmanship. In this post, we share our experience with this phone. Let us get started with this review.
Honor 8 Pro is a metal unibody phone with a slim design and rounded edges. It feels very comfortable in hand. Although it is large in size, yet the slim design and smooth curves make it feel good in the hand. You are more likely to use it with two hands just like any other phone in this size category. It does have a software based one hand mode which brings the entire screen to one side of the display for convenient one-handed usage if at all you need it. The fingerprint scanner at the back is easily reachable with the index finger and is quite snappy in unlocking the phone. 2.5D glass curved at edges gives it a smooth feel. Overall, the design is quite refined and very upmarket.
Display of this phone is 5.7 inches in size and has a resolution of 1440p. It does look very sharp and well saturated. It is slightly reflective but it does get very bright hence making it very legible and visible even in bright outdoor environments. The contrast ratio is also very good which means you get deep blacks. It is a treat to eyes to watch movies and play games on this large high-resolution 2K display.
Cameras of the Honor 8 Pro include a dual 12 MP camera combination at the rear and an 8 MP camera on the front. Don’t judge the phone by megapixels because it is one of the most refined dual camera experiences we have had so far. The rear camera is very quick to focus, takes great shots with high clarity and natural colour reproduction. There are plenty of modes, which give you complete control of the camera. Two modes which we totally love, are bokeh mode and black and white mode, both modes create excellent shots. It clicks shallow depth of field for regular shots with bokeh mode it takes it to another level.
Rear Camera Samples
The front facing 8 MP camera is also quite impressive. It has a wide field of view, captures clear selfies and the beauty mode is quite effective in removing any skin imperfections which are otherwise visible if beauty mode is turned off.
Front Camera Samples
Summing up, both the rear cameras and the front camera are up there when it comes to taking great shots even in not to good lighting conditions and are definitely worth an applaud.
Honor 8 Pro features Huawei’s own Hicilicon Kirin 960 processor which is a high performance as well efficient octa-core chipset. It also features high network performance which ensures good network strength and fast data speeds. It is coupled with 6GB of RAM with 128 GB of internal memory options. The memory can also be expanded if needed. There is hybrid dual SIM option on this phone wherein it can either work as a dual SIM phone or single SIM phone with memory expansion option available in slot 2.
With Kirin 960 CPU, 6 GB RAM, optimised EMUI on top of Android 7.0, the phone does offer great performance, fast application switching, great gaming experience and scores highly on performance benchmarking apps.
It has a 4000 mAh battery with fast charging support over type C. In our usage of this phone, it is able to deliver 1 to 1.5 days of usage on moderate to heavy usage.
