Huawei has launched its Honor View 10 smartphone in India. The new handset is a rebranded version of the company’s Honor V10. It is being touted as ‘the most affordable AI device available for the Indian consumer.’ The mid-range smartphone features a dual rear camera setup, 18:9 display, and Android 8.0 Oreo OS. Price Rs 29,999

The Honor View 10 comes with a price tag of Rs 29,999. It is priced in UK at EUR 499 (approx Rs 38,000) and GBP 449 (approx Rs 38,900). The Amazon exclusive device will compete with the likes of OnePlus 5T, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and Nokia 8.

As part of launch offer, users can avail no-cost EMIs starting at Rs 2,500 per month. ICICI credit cards can get a flat Rs. 1,500 off. Additionally, Airtel subscribers will get up to 90GB of free data. While prepaid subscribers will get 15GB data per recharge (Rs 349) for 6 recharges, postpaid subscribers will receive 15GB data for 6 months on a postpaid plan (Infinity 499 and above).

The Honor View 10 features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display with full-HD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) resolution, a pixel density of 403ppi and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 970 octa-core (4 x 2.36GHz Cortex-A73 cores + 4 x 1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores) processor and an i7 co-processor. The new handset uses a neural processing unit (NPU) for AI and machine learning related functions. 

On the camera front, the Honor View 10 sports a dual rear camera setup with a f/1.8 aperture, PDAF (phase detection autofocus system), dual-LED flash. It uses a 16-megapixel RGB primary sensor and a secondary 20-megapixel monochrome sensor. The 13-megapixel front camera comes with a f/2.0 aperture. The AI-powered Portrait mode is enhanced by features like motion detection, intelligent scene, and object recognition.

The internal storage on the handset can be expanded via microSD card (up to 256GB). It is powered by a 3750mAh battery with 5V/ 4.5A fast charging support. The new smartphone offers up to 23 hours of talk-time on 3G, and 22 days of standby time.

The Honor View 10 runs Android 8.0 operating system with EMUI 8.0 on top. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, Infrared, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, USB Type-C (2.0), and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The dual-SIM (Nano) smartphone measures 157 x 74.98 x 6.97mm and weighs 172 grams. It features a fingerprint sensor on the home button. Sensors on the device include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, and a proximity sensor. It comes in Midnight Black and Navy Blue colour options.

Face Unlock Feature

The AI-based features on the device include Facial Unlock technology (supports payment-level authentication and unlocks in 400ms), 3D face reconstruction (uses sub-millimetre reconstruction accuracy and can deliver 300k-point cloud reconstruction in 10sec), AI-accelerated translator, and Smart Tips (includes eye comfort settings, knuckle gestures, wide aperture photos, and QR code scanning).

A new OTA update will offer better display orientation. Now, the Face Unlock will detect when you are looking at the display and turn off the display when you are not. Additionally, it will adjust display orientation according to the positioning between you and your smartphone. Other features include AI motion detection, Super-Resolution Imaging to enhance resolution, and AI Zoom.

The new Honor View 10 is essentially a lighter variant of the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, which was launched at EUR 699 (approx Rs 53,400). It features a 6.0-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and a pixel density of 402ppi. The Mate 10 Pro is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor along with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage (non-expandable).

On the camera front, the dual camera setup on the smartphone combines a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor with a 12-megapixel RGB sensor. Camera features include optical image stabilization (OIS), BSI CMOS sensor, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), CAF, Laser Autofocus, and Depth Autofocus, and a dual-LED flash. There is also an 8-megapixel fixed focus front camera on the device. It is backed by a 4000mAh non-removable battery.
