Facebook-owned social networking service Instagram has introduced a new mute feature. In this new Instagram mute feature, if you don’t want to see someone’s post on your feed, you can mute it. The feature is somewhat similar to WhatsApp’s mute function.
Instagram Mute Feature
The Instagram mute feature lets you personalize your feed without unfollowing any of your followers. It will be rolled out in the coming weeks. It will be available for both Android and iOS users.
In the Instagram mute feature, a user has the option to remove users from your feed without unfollowing them. A user needs to tap the three dots menu button from the corner of a user’s post you want to mute, and then just tap the Mute button. After that, the app will ask you if you want to mute just posts or stories, or both. Instagram noted that a user can mute posts and stories also by pressing on a story in the tray or from a profile.
A user can also unmute any muted users by visiting their profile. The action will be a secret, and a muted user won’t be informed about it. The Instagram mute feature doesn’t let a user make the notifications silent if he or she is tagged in posts or comment by the muted user.
The Instagram mute feature comes as a relief to people who don’t want to see annoying posts from their friends or acquaintances.
Other Developments
Facebook-owned WhatsApp has also introduced group video calls for select users. According to a WABeta post. the Whatsapp group video calling feature has reached iOS in v218.52. Users won’t get this feature using an invitation system. It is also available on Android beta 2.18.145 and later versions. It is not revealed when the Whatsapp group video calling feature will be available to every user. But it is expected to be rolled out around the world pretty soon.
The 33-year old Zuckerberg had said that video calling is one of the most popular WhatsApp features; 2 billion minutes of video calling has already been done via the messaging platform. Zuckerberg said that he himself video calls his daughters when he is away. WhatsApp group video calling feature will indeed make it more popular.
