Meizu has launched a successor to its M5 smartphone in China. The Meizu M6 comes with a 5.2-inch display, 4G VoLTE support, and an octa-core processor. Price and Availability

Price (base model) CNY 699 (approx Rs 6,800)

The Meizu M6 is priced in China at CNY 699 (approx Rs 6,800) for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant. The 3GB RAM/32GB storage option comes with a price tag of CNY 899 (approx Rs 8,800).

The new handset will be available in China from September 25. As of now, there is no information about an Indian launch or price. Going by the Meizu M5 official launch, the Meizu M6 might take a while to reach the Indian shores.

The new Meizu M6 sports a 5.2-inch display with HD (720 x 1280) resolution and 2.5D curved glass (similar to the Meizu M5). It is also powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor and Mali T860 GPU. The internal storage can be further expanded via a microSD card (up to 128GB). The new handset is backed by a 3070mAh battery.

On the camera front, the Meizu M6 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus system (PDAF), a f/2.2 aperture, and 4-color RGBW flash. The new handset features an 8-megapixel front camera (up from the 5-megapixel camera on the M5).

Meizu claims that the new handset comes with several camera enhancements. The M6 combines multiple images to eliminate noise. The company claims that the overall signal-to-noise ratio has been decreased by 17.5 percent in comparison with the Meizu M5.

The new smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with Flyme OS 6.0 on top. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS / GLONASS, and 3G.

Meizu M6

In terms of design, the Meizu M6 looks similar to the M5. However, silver metallic lines have been added to the back panel. The polycarbonate body is surrounded by a metal frame. The dual SIM smartphone measures 148.2 x 72.8 x 8.3mm and weighs 143 grams. It comes in four color options – Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Matte Black, and Electric Light Blue.

A mTouch fingerprint sensor (capable of unlocking in 0.2sec) is embedded in the home button. Other sensors on the phone include a Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, and Ambient light sensor.

Conclusion

The low-priced handset offers decent improvements over its predecessors. However, it will find t hard to compete with contemporary handsets in its price-range. Can the new Meizu stand against affordable offering by Xiaomi, Coolpad, Panasonic, and many others? We will have to wait and see.
