Here are the important announcements from the Microsoft Windows Event October 2016:

1. Windows 10 Creators Update

The Windows 10 Creators Update is aimed at improving reality, gaming and productivity solutions. The new update will arrive in the first half of 2017 and will be available for free to all Windows 10 users. It will focus on augmented reality, virtual reality and 3D design. Paint 3D and a 3D-capturing mobile app will also be launched, as a part of the update. The app will let users scan objects and render them into 3D images.

2. New VR Headsets

Microsoft has unveiled its Windows 10 compatible standalone VR headsets. It has partnered with harware brands for the same. The new Microsoft VR Headsets will be launched early in 2017 for price starting at $299 (approximately Rs. 20,000).

3. Gaming

Targeting the gaming enthusiasts, the Windows 10 Creators Update will offer numerous gaming related features. It will come with an in-built game-streaming service called Beam. With Beam streaming, users will be able to broadcast their games. Arena is another interesting feature that will let users create custom tournaments and challenges.

4. Surface Studio & Studio Dial

Another interesting device is an all-in-one PC, called the Surface Studio. The device features a 28-inch PixelSense touchscreen display that is encased in forged aluminum enclosure. The screen has a resolution of 4500×3000 pixels. It comes with a dedicated keyboard, wireless mouse and a new special Surface Dial controller with haptic feedback and radial input. The device features a complex zero-gravity hinge with support for 20-degree drafting angle.

The PC packs an Intel quad-core Skylake processor coupled with Nvidia GeForce 980 GPU and 32GB of RAM. It comes with 2TB of hybrid disk. Connectivity options include 4x USB 3.0 ports, 1x Ethernet port, 1x mini DP, 1x SD and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Surface Studio PC is up for pre-orders and carries a price tag of $2,999 (approximately Rs. 2,00,600). It will ship during holiday season. The Surface Dial costs $99 (approximately Rs. 6,600) and works both with touchscreen and without touchscreen.

5. Surface Book i7

The company has also taken the wraps off the new Surface Book i7 that offers powerful hardware and better battery life compared to the predecessor. The company claims it to offer 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. With price starting at $1,499 (Rs. 1,00,200), the Surface Book i7 is up for pre-orders and will start shipping in November 2016.
