Price

The t.phone P is priced in India at Rs 7,999. At its price point, the new handset will have to compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 4.

Design and Display

The Smartron t.phone P features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with HD resolution, which is good for watching videos and surfing the web. The capacitive touch buttons are located below it. An easy-to-reach fingerprint sensor is placed on the back. Additional sensors include a Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.

The metal body smartphone comes in Black colour option. It is only 8.9mm thick and weighs 160g. A plastic band wraps around the premium-looking smartphone. The textured metallic power button is accompanied by plastic volume buttons. While 3.5 mm headphones are positioned on the top, the Micro-USB port and speaker are on the bottom. The lightweight device is quite comfortable for one-handed use.

Performance

The new handset is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 MSM8940 processor and 3GB RAM. It can easily handle multiple tasks (up to 8 apps running in the background). The graphics are boosted by an Adreno 505. The 32GB internal storage can be further expanded via a memory card (up to 128GB).

The Smartron t.phone P is backed by a huge 5,000 mAh Li-ion battery that will last you a whole day. It ships with a 10.5W charger in the box. In terms of battery life, we are pretty happy with this phone.

OS

The navigation experience is smooth too, thanks to a customized Android v7.1.1 (Nougat) operating system. Most of the UI is similar to stock Android OS. Preinstalled apps include t.cloud, t.care, t.store (company’s online accessories store), and a forum app. Users can avail the 1000GB of free cloud storage. Additionally, the handset is bundled with Microsoft apps such as Word, Powerpoint, OneNote, and Skype (these can be disabled).

Camera

The 13MP rear camera comes with features like High Dynamic Range mode and Phase Detection autofocus (PDAF). The 5MP front camera also helps you to capture decent selfies. It also comes with a LED flash.

Apart from the basic Photo and Video features you can also use Manual, Beautify, Time-Lapse, Panorama, and Multi-Exposure modes. The Manual mode allows users to adjust the ISO, exposure, white balance, and autofocus. You can also use the photo filters in the normal photo mode. A wide selfie mode lets you stitch three shots together.

The new handset allows you to capture decent pictures and videos. However, the camera tends to overexpose shots certain shots, which means you need to be careful about your light sources. Also, during low-light conditions camera requires some time to focus.

Connectivity

The Smartron t.phone P comes with standard connectivity options (Wi-Fi, Mobile Hotspot, 4G, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB port). However, a Hybrid-SIM slot might be a no-no for few customers.

Verdict

The budget smartphone offers decent specs and features. It can easily handle all the everyday tasks. Additionally, the huge battery means you don’t have to worry about backup. However, the camera is one aspect where we feel the phone can improve. Overall, if you are looking for a budget-friendly smartphone, then Smartron t.phone P is a good option.
