Sony Xperia J1 Compact SIM-Free Phone Unveiled: Price, Specs & Features

Sony has introduced its Sony Xperia J1 Compact smartphone in Japan. It is the first SIM-free smartphone from the company. As far as specifications of the handset are concerned, it is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 330 GPU. The handset runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat and flaunts a 4.3 inch HD display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The Xperia J1 Compact sports a 20.7 mega pixel rear camera with flash and a 2.2 mega pixel front facing camera. On storage front, it houses 16 GB of inbuilt storage which is expandable using microSD card. It packs a 2300 mAh battery which is claimed to deliver up to 81 hours of music playback time. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS/ A-GPS. It measures 128 x 65 x 9.7 mm and weighs 138 grams. The handset also boasts of IP58  rating for water and dust resistance.

Earlier this month, Sony launched its Xperia E4 Dual smartphone in India. As for specifications, the handset comes with 1.3 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek processor, 5 inch IPS LCD display with 960 x 540 pixels resolution, Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB (expandable via microSD card) of inbuilt storage, 5 mega pixel rear camera, 2 mega pixel front facing camera and 2300 mAh battery.

Price and Availability

The Sony Xperia J1 Compact phone is priced JPY 54,800 + taxes, and the pre-orders for the handset will start from March 27. Sony is expected to make an official launch announcement on April 20, 2015.
