Umi mobiles, a Chinese smartphone maker that is foraying into India slowly has just launched a the cheapest 720p quad core smartphone in India. The UMI S1 has been launched to tighten the noose around the Micromax Canvas HD A116 as it offers similar features at a lower price point. The UMI S1 will retail for Rs.12,000 and the smartphone can be ordered from the company’s website.
The UMI S1 features a 5 inch screen of 720p resolution and it runs the latest iteration of Android, 4.2 Jelly Bean which is quite great comsidering the fact that every budget quad core device present in the market runs Android 4.1. It has the same processor as the Canvas HD and gets a 1.2 GHz quad core processor which is a Mediatek unit and is coupled with a 1GB RAM to ensure you can multitask easily.
The smartphone features a 8 megapixel rear snapper and the secondary camera is a 2 megapixel unit. It will be offered in two variants, 8GB and 16GB and there will be an option to expand the memory by another 32GB. It will be dual sim smartphone and if you look at it, it looks somewhat like the HTC Butterfly. Providing it juice will be a 2,020 mAH battery which seems quite paltry seeing the fact that company claims that it will offer a talk time 4 hours and the real life performance will be a little less.
It gets 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to take care of the connectivity department. Umi mobiles has been on the launching spree in India and with the launch of the Umi S1, they will further strengthen the grip in the market. The company does not has a very wide service network but with the coming of the AndroidGuruz in the country, the company will get a wider access in the market and Micromax will have a serious threat staying on the top.
