The fingerprint sensor on the back is as fast and accurate as the one on the Redmi Note 3. As for speaker quality, the audio from the bottom firing single speaker is very loud and clear.

Display

The 5.5-inch full HD 2.5D curved display on the front has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels resolution. The screen is very vivid and sharp and it is one of the best displays in the price segment.

Camera

For photography lovers, the smartphone sports a 13 mega pixel rear camera with dual LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and PDAF. Upfront, you get a 5 mega pixel snapper with f/2.0 aperture.

Both front and rear camera do a good job in normal light conditions. The images taken with the phone come out to be clear and sharp. It produces good bokeh effect with the rear camera. Overall, we are really impressed with the camera quality of the Redmi Note 4.

Gaming & Performance

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 4 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset which is apparently less powerful compared to the Snapdragon 650 SoC on Redmi Note 3. It is a compromise which does not perform too bad and at the same time delivers you a better battery life as it consumes less power.

As for benchmarks, the Redmi Note 4 scores around 56,000 on Antutu while the Redmi Note 3 did score around 70,000 mark, which is about 25% higher compared to Redmi note 4. Coming to gaming department, the experience is not much compromised. There may be some loss in absolute performance, but in real life experience, you will hardly notice the difference as the power of a Snapdragon 625 with Adreno 506 GPU is capable of pulling off most casual games with ease.

Battery & Connectivity

The Redmi Note 4 is equipped with a 4100mAh battery which delivers exceptionally good battery life. The smartphone is very efficient on battery usage since the Snapdragon 625 chipset is very power-efficient.

Price & Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 variant with 4GB RAM+64GB storage carries a price tag of Rs. 12,999. The 3GB RAM+32GB storage model is priced at Rs. 10,999 and the 2GB RAM+32GB storage variant will cost Rs. 9,999. The first sale for Redmi Note 4 will take place on January 23 at 12:00 PM exclusively on Mi.com and Flipkart. No pre-registrations are required for the sale.

Verdict

The Redmi Note 4 carries forward the legacy of Redmi Note 3. It is apparently an upgrade to the Redmi Note 3 in terms of design, battery performance, audio and video quality and ergonomics. Gaming enthusiasts, however, may feel that it is a downgrade in terms of processor change from Snapdragon 650 to Snapdragon 625. But in real life usage, it is not very noticeable. Also change of rear camera from 16 mega pixel to 13 mega pixel does not show any dip in the image quality, which is certainly a good thing. All in all, just like Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4 is a very well-rounded package and probably the best bang for the buck in its segment.
