New Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Variant Comes With 6GB RAM, 128GB Storage

Price CNY 1,699 (approx Rs 17,200)

The new Redmi Note 5 variant is priced in China at CNY 1,699 (approx Rs 17,200). The 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant was also launched at the same price (back in March). Sales start on July 27.

The base variant of the Redmi Note 5 (3GB RAM/ 32GB storage) is available in China at CNY 999 (approx Rs 10,100). Whereas the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant costs CNY 1,299 (approx Rs 13,200).

The Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels) and 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor (it was rumored to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC or Snapdragon 636 SoC). The internal storage can be further expanded via micro SD card (up to 128GB).

On the camera front, the Redmi Note 5 features a dual camera setup on the back. It combines a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. It features 1.4-micron pixel sensor, f/1.9 aperture and dual-pixel PDAF (phase detection autofocus).

The handset also sports a 13-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling. It is backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery.

The Redmi Note 5 comes in five color options – Black, Blue, Flame Red, Gold, and Rose Gold. A fingerprint sensor is placed on the back. While the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass coating, a dual pyrolytic graphite sheet keeps the phone cool during heavy usage.

The new smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with MIUI 9 on top. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, dual-SIM support, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Conclusion

The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 variant looks like a decent package. However, it is quite similar to the company’s Redmi Note 5 Pro (India) which was rebranded in China as Redmi Note 5. There were certain hardware changes in the camera department.
