While the Google Pixel 3a is priced at Rs 39,999, the Google Pixel 3a XL comes with a price tag of Rs 44,999. Both smartphones will be available in India from May 15. Registrations have already started via Flipkart.

While the new smartphones come in three color options (Clearly White, Just Black, and Purple), only the first two will be available in India. However, Google is offering a free 3-month YouTube Music Premium subscription with the new handsets.

Both the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor along with 4GB LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB internal storage.

While the Pixel 3a is backed by a 3,000mAh battery (offers up to 12 hours video playback time), the Pixel 3a XL comes with a 3,700mAh battery (provides up to 14 hours video playback time).

Google claims that the new smartphones can last up to 30 hours on a full charge. Additionally, the 18-watt charge delivers up to 7 hours of battery life on a 15-minute charge.

Camera

The new smartphones sport a single 12.2-megapixel rear camera with Dual-Pixel Sony IMX363 sensor, optical and electronic image stabilization (OIS + EIS), f/1.8 aperture, 76-degree field of view, 1/2.55-inch sensor, and 1.4-micron pixels.

Camera features include the Night Sight mode (for low-light photography), HDR+, Portrait Mode, Super Res Zoom, and Top Shot. Additionally, it can capture 120fps videos at 1080p, 240fps videos at 720p, and 4K videos at 30fps.

For selfies and video calling, the new Pixel 3a Duo sport an 8-megapixel front camera with 1.12-micron pixels, f/2.0 aperture, and an 84-degree field of view.

Both the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL run Android 9.0 Pie operating system (with a minimum of 3 years promised updates). Additionally, new smartphones support the company’s AR Core framework for augmented reality apps.

While Google has removed the custom Pixel hardware (like the Pixel Visual Core) from the Pixel 3a Duo, the Titan M security chip is still present. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-FI 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In India, the dual-SIM will be available via an eSIM support from Airtel and Reliance Jio. It will also be made available for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones.

Design

The new smartphones feature a polycarbonate unibody design. The Pixel 3a measures 151.3 x 70.1 x 8.2mm and weighs 147 grams. Whereas the Pixel 3a XL measures 160.1 x 76.1 x 8.2mm and weighs 167 grams.

The Google Pixel 3a sports a 5.6-inch gOLED display with full-HD+ (1080 x 2220 pixels) resolution and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the Google Pixel 3a XL sports a 6.0-inch gOLED display with full-HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Both devices offer 24-bit color depth (16 million colors) and feature Dragon Trail glass protection. For audio, the new handsets use stereo speakers.

A Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear panel. Other sensors on the device include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, a proximity sensor, and an Active Edge sensor.
