The Microsoft Surface Duo will be available for purchase in the US on September 10. It comes with a starting price of $1,399 (approx Rs 1,04,600).

The dual-screen smartphone was initially unveiled in October last year. As of now, there is no information about the Indian price or launch date.

The Microsoft Surface Duo is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor along with 6GB RAM and up to 256GB internal storage.

For selfies and video calling, the new handset features an 11-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) at the front. It can be used for capturing selfies as well as video calls.

The Microsoft Surface Duo is backed by two batteries with an overall capacity of 3,577mAh.

The Microsoft Surface Duo features two 5.6-inch OLED (1,350 x 1,800 pixels) displays with 4:3 aspect ratio. It unfolds into an an 8.1-inch PixelSense Fusion display with 2,700 x 1,800 pixels resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio.

The dual-smartphone comes with a 360-degree hinge that offers a variety of modes. A dedicated stylus pen can be used for drawing and keeping handwritten notes.

The Microsoft Surface Duo runs the Android operating system. It comes with Google Play Store and runs Microsoft Launcher. You can even make phone calls.

When folded out, the handset will offer touch commands on the lower portion of the screen (for Project xCloud Xbox game streaming).

The new smartphone can also be connected to a full Windows 10 experience in the cloud using Windows Virtual Desktop. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a USB Type-C port.

Conclusion

With the new dual-screen smartphone, Microsoft is targeting enterprise customers. It offers support for bringing your own device (BYOD) scenarios.

The Surface Duo is touted to come with enterprise-level security based on Microsoft’s in-house Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI).

Microsoft claims that it has provided a separate Surface Duo SDK to let developers optimize apps for the new form-factor.
