As per the 3C certification website, the upcoming Vivo flagship phone is called Vivo X20Plus UD. The ‘UD’ hints at the Under Display fingerprint sensor. It might be the first smartphone to feature the new technology.
Qualcomm Technologies revealed the upgraded Snapdragon Sense ID fingerprint technology at MWC 2017. The new features include detection of directional gestures, underwater fingerprint match, and device wake-up. It is also the first integrated ultrasonic-based mobile solution to detect a heartbeat and blood flow. However, Vivo is expected to use a Synaptics Clear ID 9500 optical under-display fingerprint sensor. Synaptics claims that around 70 million units of the new sensors will be available in the market in 2018.
Apart from the new fingerprint sensor, the new handset (with model number BK1124) is tipped to support fast charging and 4G LTE. Other specifications are said to be similar to the Vivo X20 Plus. Highlights of the Vivo X20Plus include a 6.43-inch Full View display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, and a dual camera setup (12-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensors) on the back.
The large-screen handset is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and 4GB/6GB RAM. Other features include a 12-megapixel front camera and FunTouch OS. The Android (7.1.1 Nougat) handset is backed by a larger 3800mAh battery.
The upcoming handset measures 165.2 x 80.02 x 7.35mm and weighs 183.1 gram. It will come with multiple colour options – Black Gold, Champagne Gold, Rose Gold, and Matte Black. Connectivity options will include Bluetooth, USB support, and the 4G Internet.
The new technology will help smartphone manufacturers to bring cleaner designs with smaller bezels and enhanced security authentication. OnePlus 6 is also rumored to sport an under-display fingerprint sensor. The new technology might be the next trend in the smartphone market.
