Along with the new iPhone 2018 lineup, Apple has launched its next-generation smartwatch. It comes with a larger display and thinner bezels compared to last year’s model. The Apple Watch Series 4 is priced at $399 (approx Rs 28,700) for the GPS-only variant. The cellular variant comes with a price tag of $499 (approx Rs 35,900). Pre-orders start from September 14.

The new smartwatch will be available from September 21. While the GPS-only variant will ship to 26 markets, the cellular variant will hit 16 markets. As of now, there is no information about the Indian price and launch date.

The new watchOS 5 will be available for Apple Watch models from September 17.

The new smartwatch is available in three aluminum finishes including Silver, Space Grey, and a Gold stainless finish. It is made entirely of black ceramic and sapphire crystal. The display is 30 percent larger than last year’s model. Users can choose from two casing options – 40mm and 44mm. It is also swim-proof and features an optical heart sensor.

The UI on the latest watchOS 5 is optimized for the larger display. The new watch faces include a modular face that allows you to add several health and fitness statistics. In addition, users can choose from three new minimal faces.

The Apple Watch Series 4 is powered by a 64-bit dual-core Apple S4 processor and a new GPU (up to two times faster performance than the Series 3). It also comes with a next-gen accelerometer and gyroscope (with up to 2x dynamic range and up to 32 g-forces).

A built-in fall detection can alert emergency services and SOS contacts immediately. Additional health features include a ‘low heart rate’ notification, alerts for atrial fibrillation, and electrocardiogram (ECG). It comes with ‘De Novo’ classification by the US FDA. The results of the new ECG app are stored in the Health app on your iPhone and can be shared via a PDF file. Connectivity options include Bluetooth v5.0.

Additionally, a haptic feedback allows you to easily navigate apps like Calendar and Podcasts. The speaker on the new Apple Watch Series 4 is also 50 percent louder.

Alongside the new launch, the Cupertino giant has also slashed the price of Apple Watch Series 3. It is now available at $279 (approx Rs 20,100). Apple claims that the Apple Watch is the highest selling watch in the world. It is being touted as ‘an intelligent guardian for your health.‘ With the new generation, the company is focusing on connectivity, fitness, and health as the three core elements. Apparently, ‘everything has been redesigned and re-engineered.‘
