Conclusion

The standalone gaming app has been in a testing phase since 2018. It is being touted to offer “all of Facebook Gaming in one neat, app-sized package.”

The social network giant accelerated the launch ‘to encourage meaningful community interactions’ for people locked down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The current ‘stay home’ situation has already benefited the new app. Facebook claims that the new platform has around 700 million of its global users playing games or participating in gaming groups.

“The Facebook Gaming app is a focused, gaming-only experience where you can watch your favorite streamers, play instant games and take part in gaming groups,” Facebook said in a statement on Twitter.

While the iOS version is expected to arrive in June this year, Facebook is trying to bring it sooner to take advantage of the sudden surge in gaming.
