Sony A7R IV Camera Launched With 61MP Sensor, 10fps Burst Shooting

The Sony A7R IV is priced in the US at $3,500 (approx Rs 2,40,700). It will be available in September this year.

The company also announced several new accessories for the A7R IV. The XLR-K3M XLR adopter kit will be available in September at $600 (approx Rs 41,200), respectively.

Additionally, the VG-C4EM vertical grip (with in-built batteries) and ECM-B1M shotgun microphone will go on sale in September at $400 (approx Rs 27,500) and $350 (approx Rs 24,000).

The Sony A7R IV comes with several upgrades over the A7R III (launched in 2017). This includes the world’s first 61-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor (up from 42.4-megapixel sensor). It is also the first to feature real-time Eye AF for video.

Apart from the huge sensor, the full-frame camera comes with Sony’s BIONZ X image processor, 15-stop dynamic range, an upgraded electronic viewfinder (EVF) with a 5.76 million dot resolution.

The Sony A7R IV supports professional 4K shooting modes. Users will be able to shoot at the full resolution (with no pixel binning) in Super 35 mode. The S-Log3 and HDR workflows are also supported.

The new camera has an ISO range of 100 – 32,000 (expandable). It features 567 PDAF (phase detection) and 425 contrast-detection autofocus points. Burst shooting is 10fps with AE/AF tracking for about seven seconds.

The Sony Pixel Shift Multi Shooting feature allows you to shoot 16 high-resolution images, with a slight shift in sensor positioning for each image. These images are composited in Sony’s Imaging Edge software to produce an effective 240.8-megapixel resolution image.

The aluminum-alloy body is dust and moisture resistant. There’s also a new multi-selector joystick, redesigned rear dial, and an E-mount.

The new camera comes with two SD card slots (both UHS-II compliant). Whereas the battery allows you to shoot approximately 670 shots per charge (while using the LCD).
