Sony has launched its much-anticipated Xperia 1 handset with 21:9 CinemaWide display. It comes with a triple rear camera setup and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. It is also touted to be the world’s first 4K OLED smartphone. The Sony Xperia 1 comes in Black, Grey, Purple, and White color variants. It will be available in the US from late Spring in Black and Purple color options. As of now, there is no confirmation about the Indian price and launch date. It is said to be priced around EUR 799 (approx Rs 74,200).

The new smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and 6GB RAM. Sony has also thrown in the Snapdragon Elite Gaming to handle processor-intensive apps and games. The 128GB internal storage can be further expanded via a microSD card (up to 512GB).

The 3,300mAh battery on the device supports Xperia Adaptive Charging feature. It comes with Smart Stamina and Stamina Mode.

Camera

The Sony Xperia 1 sports a triple camera set up at the back. It combines a 12-megapixel primary Exmor RS sensor (f/1.6 aperture, 78-degree lens, 12-megapixel secondary sensor (f/2.4 aperture, 135-degree wide-angle lens), and a 12-megapixel tertiary sensor (f/2.4 aperture, a 45-degree telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom).

Camera features include OIS support for photos, OIS/ EIS video stabilization support, Cinema Pro (supports 21:9 movie recording), LOOK color settings, 4K HDR video recording, RAW noise reduction, Eye AF, Bokeh effect, HDR photo, 3D Creator, and 10fps AF/ AE (autofocus and auto exposure) in the burst mode.

For selfies and video calling, the handset sports an 8-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle lens. It comes with features like HDR photo, SteadyShot, Portrait selfie effects, Display flash, and a 3D Creator.

Additionally, the Sony Xperia 1 comes with a Dual photodiode technology that provides fast autofocus in low light conditions. Whereas the Optical SteadyShot technology on top of a hybrid stabilization system uses a unique algorithm to offer shake-free videos. The Cinema Pro mode provides expression-based color management presets and eight different experiences to transform regular clips into cinematic shots.

The Sony Xperia 1 runs Android 9.0 Pie operating system. Connectivity options include 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C.

The dual-SIM smartphone features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED CinemaWide display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, and a resolution of 1644 x 3840 pixels. It supports 10-bit tonal gradation and has a wide color space ITU-R BT.2020 and DCI-P3 with Illuminant D65. The display is powered by Sony’s X1 for mobile engine and comes with Master Monitor color reproduction.

A fingerprint sensor is placed on the side. Other sensors on the device include an accelerometer, ambient light, barometer, game rotation vector, geomagnetic rotation vector, gyroscope, hall sensor, magnetometer, proximity sensor, and an RGBC-IR sensor.
