The new entrant, Reliance Jio made a big splash in the market last year. The aggressive approach including free data offers and 4G VoLTE forced all telecom operators to come up with competitive offers. Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea have been struggling to retain subscribers since then. The unlimited calling and value for money data plans offered by Reliance Jio have led to intense tariff war in the Indian telecom market. With a subscriber base of over a billion customers, India is the second largest telecom market in the world.
Airtel plans to launch commercial VoLTE (voice over LTE) services in the next quarter. It is currently conducting trials for voice over LTE (VoLTE) in some cities including Mumbai. The company has already launched 4G services in all the 22 telecom circles. The Vodafone India is also conducting VoLTE trials and plans to launch services shortly. The launch of VoLTE services by all major operators will bring superior experience for users and might stabilize competition in the market
