Samsung has launched its new budget smartphone Samsung Galaxy J1 in India priced at Rs. 7,190 which is available to buy through e-commerce portal Amazon India. The Galaxy J1 will compete with the likes of Asus Zenfone C and Motorola Moto E in Indian smartphone market. Zenfone C which has also been launched recently is priced at Rs. 5,999. It is available to buy now through Flipkart and will be available in retail stores starting from 18th February 2015. In this post we have pitted Galaxy J1 against its rivals. Processor & RAM

All the three handsets are based on different SoC’s, but feature 1.2 GHz Dual-core CPU. The Galaxy J1 is powered by Spreadtrum processor coupled with 512 MB of RAM. Zenfone C comes with Intel Atom CloverTrail Z2520 while Moto E comes powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 200, both accompanied with 1 GB of RAM which is larger as compared to that of Galaxy J1.

Operating System

All the three handsets run on Android 4.4 KitKat operating sytem. Zenfone C features ZenUI on the top of its Android 4.4 operating system.

Display

Samsung J1 and Moto E both sport a 4.3 inch display while Zenfone C features a larger 4.5 inch display. The screen resolution of Samsung J1 is 480 x 800, Zenfone C comes with 480 x 854 while that of Moto E is 540 x 960 pixels with a pixel density of 256 ppi.

Camera & Storage

Samsung Galaxy J1 and Zenfone C both sport a 5 mega pixel auto focus rear camera with LED flash. J1 comes with a 2 mega pixel front facing camera and Zenfone C sports a VGA front facing camera. Motorola Moto E sports a 5 mega pixel rear camera but misses out on a secondary camera.

Samsung J1 and Moto E entail 4 GB of internal storage with the storage of former being expandable up to 128 GB and of latter up to 32 GB via microSD card. Zenfone C houses 8 GB of in-built storage which is further expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card.

Battery & Dimensions

Zenfone C packs the largest 2100 mAh battery followed by Moto E with 1980 mAh battery and Samsung Galaxy J1 with 1850 mAh battery.

Galaxy J1 is the lightest and sleekest with 122 grams weight and 8.9 mm thickness. Asus Zenfone C is 10.9 mm thick and weighs 150 grams while Moto E is 12.3 mm thick and weighs 142 grams.

Price

Asus Zenfone C and Moto E are identically priced at Rs. 5,999 both are now available to buy via Flipkart while Galaxy J1 comes with a higher price tag of Rs. 7,190 which is roughly Rs. 1,100 higher than the former two. J1 is available exclusively through Amazon India.

Verdict

All the three handsets feature fairly good specs. Zenfone C and Moto E have edge over the Samsung Galaxy J1 in terms of more RAM and lower price. Galaxy J1 on the other hand, outperforms its rivals  in terms of camera front, microSD support, sleek design and less weight. Samsung Galaxy J1 is certainly going to have tough time competing with its two rivals due to its higher price tag. We can expect Galaxy J1 to prove to be a great package if its prices drop a little in future.
