It is being reported that the Tim Cook-led tech giant Apple is planning to launch a compatible Apple VR headset in 2020. It is being speculated that the headset will also be equipped with dual 8K displays and powerful in-house chips.

The Apple VR headset will allegedly connect to a “box” system through short-range, high-speed wireless technology. The AR and VR wireless headset will also have a powerful in-house chip. The chip will be at the core of the box with a 5-nanometer processor. It will enable the headset’s high-speed and efficient performance. It will have several fitted cameras. The cameras will actively monitor surroundings. According to the report, everything will be made into the box.

According to a CNET report, the Tim Cook has already talked about the company’s augmented reality focus as a major project. The report also emphasizes the project as Apple’s next big thing, as its looking to get revenue from sources that the iPhone.

The headset is predicted to challenge Oculus VR, Microsoft’s HoloLens and HTC Vive.The project has been codenamed T288. It is reportedly in its early states. So it could also be changed or cancelled anytime prior to the launch.

The report also states that around 22 million Apple VR headset units are expected to be sold in 2018. The numbers will rise five times to over 120 million in 2022. In terms of money, the market would stand at $10 billion in 2022.

During 2017’s WWDC, Apple announced publicly about ARkit. It is an SK to integrate AR-based games and productivity apps on iOS. Apple is looking to break into the AR market which has failed us all till now.

It has also been rumoured that the company’s 2018 6.1-inch iPhone model will ditch 3D Touch. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (published by Chinese website Feng, the model will use “Cover Glass Sensor”(CGS) technology. It will relocate the device’s touch module from the display panel to the surface glass. The CGS procedure allegedly leads to a display that is shock resistant and more lighter. The model’s CGS will also have a thin-film layer added to the touch-film sensor. Right now, the purpose of the new layer hasn’t been revealed yet. Reportedly, it will lead to a 15% increase in the cost of the touch panel. To counterbalance the cost of the new display, Kuo has speculated that Apple will remove the 3D Touch functionality. If Apple actually does this, a good reason would be needed to remove the well-integrated module from the operating system.
