Coolpad launched its Cool 1 smartphone last year in December 2016. Offering high-end specs for a price tag of just Rs. 13,999, it has become cynosure for many in the Indian market. We used the device for a couple of days and here’s our Coolpad Cool 1 detailed review [with video] with details on design, build quality, performance and camera performance of the phone.
Design & Build Quality
The design of the Cool 1 looks very premium. It boasts its unibody metal design which looks elegant. The build quality of the phone is strong and durable. It measures 152×74.8×8.2 mm, weighs 167 grams and feels comfortable while holding in hand.
On the front, the device features a large 5.5-inch full HD display with 1920×1080 pixels resolution. The screen is sharp and vibrant and has good viewing angles. The contrast and display quality are very good.
Above the display, there is an 8 mega pixel front camera along with earpiece and sensors.
Below the display, there are three touch capacitive buttons which are backlit.
On the top edge, you get 3.5mm audio jack and IR blaster.
The left edge houses dual SIM card tray.
Volume rockers and power button are located on the right edge.
On the bottom edge, you get microphone, USB Type-C port and speakers.
On the rear, there is a dual 13 mega pixel camera set up along with dual LED flash, fingerprint sensor and Coolpad and LeEco inside branding.
The fingerprint scanner is quite fast and accurate and the company claims it to unlock the phone in just 0.15 seconds. The bottom firing speakers are fairly good and loud.
Coming to the camera department, the USP of the Cool 1 is its dual rear camera set up. It sports dual 13-megapixel sensors on the back panel. For shutterbugs, the Cool 1 comes with 13 megapixel dual rear cameras with dual LED flash, PDAF and f/2.0 aperture. On the front, it sports an 8 mega pixel front facing camera for taking selfies and making video calls.
In the camera app, you get several modes like Night mode, Video mode, Photo mode, Beauty mode and Pro mode. The Pro mode offers various controls to the users for capturing enhanced images. It also supports 4K video recording. As for camera quality, it takes great images with the rear camera. The images come out to be crisp and sharp with good amount of detailing. The front shooter also performs very well.
Hardware & Performance
At the heart of the Cool 1, is an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor coupled with Adreno 510 GPU. The phone houses 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory (around 25GB user available). Sadly, it lacks expandable storage support via microSD card. We tested the phone on AnTuTu benchmarks and got a score of around 82800 points.
Apps launch quickly and multitasking is also smooth. It plays moderate to heavy games with ease and if you are a gamer then you can opt for this phone.
The smartphone runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system wrapped under LeEco’s EUI. If you have used a LeEco phone before, then you must be able to relate to the Cool 1. The interface is user friendly and responsive and is similar to that of the LeEco smartphones.
Battery & Connectivity
Backed up by a 4060mAh battery, the smartphone supports fast charging. On a single charge, it lasts for up to 1.5 days for heavy users and 2 to 2.5 days for moderate users. The phone also supports reverse charging and lets users charge other devices. Connectivity options include 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C.
Price & Availability
Priced at Rs. 13,999, the Coolpad Cool 1 is available to buy exclusively from Amazon India.
The only downside that Cool 1 has is lack of expandable storage support. However, 32GB of internal memory, out of which around 25GB is user available, should be sufficient to take care of user’s storage needs. For a price tag of Rs. 13,999, the Cool 1 has a lot to offer. The Coolpad Cool 1 flaunts its premium design and comes with top of the line specifications. It offers great display, smooth performance, good set of cameras, user friendly software and more.
