Honor 5C Camera Review

Honor recently launched its 5C smartphone in India. Priced at Rs. 10,999, Honor’s latest budget smartphone is one of hottest phones in the affordable smartphones segment.

We have been testing it out for the last few days and we  have already shared hands on review and battery life test of the phone. In this post, we will share what we think about the camera of the phone.

The Honor 5C sports a 13 mega pixel primary camera on the rear with LED flash and an 8 mega pixel front facing camera. The rear camera of the phone features f/2.0 aperture and 78-degree wide angle 5-element 5P macro lens. The lens of the  camera has with anti-reflective, oleophobic, and infrared-absorbing technology that reduces glare, prevents fingerprints and stops unwanted IR light from passing to the sensor.

The camera app is straightforward and well optimized for rapid captures. Swiping left or right in the camera app lets you switch between different modes and settings controls.

Honor 5C’s camera is based on SmartImage 3.0 image processor that offers a variety of creative filters and shooting modes, such as Light Painting that gives manual control of the shutter for long exposure shots; Professional mode that provides a range of DSLR-style camera settings; and Document scan which automatically crops and straightens images of documents. Several modes such as HDR, slow-motion video, time lapse video and panorama are also present.

It also has an object tracking feature that allows users to touch the object to focus on and then the camera will track and focus on that object. Controls for touch to capture, smile capture, resolution and more are also available in the settings menu. It supports HDR which produces images with perfectly-exposed subject and background with more accurate color reproduction.

The 8 mega pixel front camera comes with f/2.0 aperture, 77-degree wide-angle lens and 4P lens. All these features make sure that users get best selfies. The front snapper features Prime image signal processor with automatic scene recognition. Beauty mode is also present on the Honor 5c’s camera which has a slider from 0 to 10 that lets you decide how refined  you want your face to look.

There is a Pro mode for both photos and videos that allows users to manually control several photography parameters. Users can shoot up to 1080p videos with the rear camera and 720p videos with the front camera on Honor 5C.

As for camera performance, it performs similar to that of the Honor 5X. Images have good detailing and colour reproduction. Pictures taken in both well-lit as well as low lighting conditions come out to be good. Images taken in both indoors and outdoors impress us with their detailing and clarity but you can expect slightly less detailing in some of the low light shots. There is very little graininess in the images taken with the front camera and at the price, it is something you make peace with.

Macro shots taken with the phone are also crisp and have good  detailing and clarity.

Overall, we are impressed with the outdoor as well as indoor photography capabilities of the Honor 5C. It’s camera offers you more than what you would expect from a budget smartphone. With a great camera combination, Honor 5C would be a great companion for you to capture your happy moments.
