Honor 7x Review- Premium Experience At Mid-Range Price

Honor 7x has been launched at the most aggressive price in India compared to any other market it is sold in. At just Rs. 12,999 for the 32 GB variant, the Honor 7x makes for a very compelling buy in the price segment. We have spent a good amount of time with this phone and we share with you our review of the Honor 7x, the successor of the popular Honor 6x which made quite a mark in its price category for a long time. Here we talk about all the important practical aspects of the Honor 7x one by one. Let us get started.

Design

Honor 7x is a very well designed phone with a great thought given to the ease of use. The phone is narrow enough to feel very comfortable to hold, yet has a large enough display to enjoy the visuals on the screen. It has rounded corners which feel good in the hand and premium matt finish metallic back which feels soft and premium to touch. The 2.5d Curved glass feels very natural to glide from the screen to the edge of the display with super narrow bezels on all sides making this phone really compact for the size of display it hosts. The placement of fingerprint scanner is on-point with the location at rear-middle where my index finger naturally rests. Two discreet camera protrusions may bother some people, which seems to be the only concerns when it comes to design, one can easily overlook it considering the pros of the design of this phone. Overall, this phone does look and feel way more expensive compared to the tag price you pay for it.

Display

The display is one of the strong traits of this phone. With an 18:9 aspect ratio FHD+ resolution (1080×2160) panel, the display is plenty sharp (407 ppi). With a large 5.93-inch display size, there is a lot of visual real-estate on offer on the screen beside the phone being fairly compact. The brightness of the panel is also quite good for outdoor use. The 18:9 aspect ratio allows for viewing more content on the screen and fitting in more data while using apps like Maps or playing games. The colour saturation and contrast are also very impressive. Clearly, the display is one of the USPs of this phone at this price point. Overall, the display panel size, quality and slim bezels make the display look fabulous!

Camera

Honor 7x offers dual camera setup at rear with 16 MP main camera and a 2 MP depth sensor for the bokeh effect. The rear cameras are accompanied by the LED flash, PDAF, HDR and come advanced modes like light-painting, Wide Aperture (portrait mode), Moving Picture mode (similar to Live Photo), Time Lapse, Slow Motion, Water Mark, Night Shot, Pro Photo, Pro Video etc. The camera is loaded with these interesting modes and features. We are really impressed with the picture quality produced by the rear cameras in a variety of lighting conditions. Below is a picture gallery with sample shots taken with the cameras of this phone so that you can judge the quality yourself.

There is also an 8 MP front-facing camera which takes good pictures with a wide lens. The beauty mode on this camera removed any imperfections on the skin tone using beauty algorithms. Please see some sample shots below to see the output quality. We have also done separate detailed camera review. So make sure to check it out as well.

Overall, the camera performance of this phone is very impressive.

Performance

When it comes to hardware and software performance of this phone, it is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset which is a beast when it comes to performance. It is coupled with 4GB RAM (standard with both 32 GB and 64 GB Internal memory variants). This combination along with EMUI 5.1 running on top of Android 7 makes the phone fly through any task you throw at it with ease. The phone is very fast and snappy to respond. The fingerprint scanner is super quick to unlock, much faster than any phone in this segment. Apps open up quickly, app switching is fast and smooth. Overall, the phone’s speed and performance is easily the best in the price segment.

Battery Life

With a slim form factor, narrow design and beautiful looks, this phone even manages to pack a decent size battery of 3340 mAh. Along with the power efficient HiSilicon 659 chip and software optimizations, Honor has been able to deliver great battery life on Honor 7x. With moderate to heavy usage, this phone will easily last one full day with some charge still remaining towards the end of the day.

Verdict- Honor 7x Review

The Honor 7x is able to tick all the right boxes including a premium design, great performance, good cameras, good battery life and all that without breaking your budget. The 32 GB internal memory variant is priced at Rs. 12,999 while the 64 GB internal memory variant is available for Rs. 15,999. At these price points, this phone is a great value for money. It is a premium experience at the mid-range price. You can buy Honor 7x on Amazon here.
