South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics launched their Galaxy J2 Pro on Friday – 13th April 2018. The mobile does not support does not support 4G, 3G and Wi-Fi. This is a move by the company to curb the rising internet addiction among teenagers in the country, especially during exams.

The smartphone is a basic version of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy range and has different technical features. The smartphone doesn’t have any internet browsing option. It also doesn’t have access to any social media applications.

Specifications, Features, and Price

The Galaxy J2 Pro is equipped with basic functions like normal SMS, calling and a dictionary app. The device also has an English-Korean and vice-versa language translator. The phone sports a 5.0-inch qHD AMOLED screen and has 1.5GB RAM. The device is powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, 8-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. It is also built with a 2,600mAh battery.

The Galaxy J2 Pro is available in two colors – black and gold. The mobile is being sold for 199,100 won (approx. Rs. 12,140).

Samsung has already announced that the students who buy the Galaxy J2 Pro now and clear College Scholastic ability Test in 2019 or 2020, will get huge discounts in buying the Galaxy S or Note or A series phones while joining college.

The rise of social media in the 21st century has led to an increasing internet addiction among teenagers. This sometimes leads to harming introverted people who imagine that they are boring. This leads to depression, especially suicide. Even Facebook has developed an AI-powered tool for their platform to detect suicidal tendencies of its users on their live videos and posts.

This move will also increase the interaction between parents and children, which will lead to a healthy relationship. Children will also focus more on studies. This will lead to good grades. The South Korean company also expects the new Galaxy J2 Pro to find suitability amongst budget-sensitive senior citizens. This model could be more user-friendly towards them.
