Availability

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 was unveiled during the 4G/5G summit in Hong Kong. Shipping is expected to start from November this year.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chip is designed with the 14nm FinFet technology. It features 1.8 GHz Octa Core Kryo 260 CPUs (optimized across 4 performance and 4 efficiency cores). Qualcomm claims that the new processor delivers around 40 percent faster performance than the Snapdragon 630 chip.

The gaming and browsing speed is boosted by Adreno 509 GPU and an integrated Snapdragon X12 LTE Modem. While the gaming speed is enhanced by 10 percent, users will get to experience up to 600 Mbps LTE download speed. The Snapdragon X12 LTE modem features integrated 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO.

The new chipset comes with support for assertive display and ultra-wide FHD+. It allows you to adjust the visibility in different lighting conditions. Users will be able to capture high-quality images, thanks to Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP. The Dual 14-bit ISPs support up to 24MP (single or dual 16MP cameras). Other features include Zero shutter lag, autofocus, smooth Zoom etc.

Additionally, the new Snapdragon 636 comes with support for aptX, Aqstic audio, and QuickCharge 4 (20 percent faster, 30 percent more efficient than the previous generation, charge from zero to 50 percent in 15 minutes). The Qualcomm Hexagon 680 DSP is designed to provide battery-efficient enhancements to audio, video, and other heavy tasks.

Qualcomm claims that the new Snapdragon 636 is designed to support advanced photography and enhanced gaming. It will also offer long battery life and fast LTE speeds for smartphones and tablets. While multiple recent flagships were rumored to feature the new chipset, we will have to wait for a while to see the new processor in action.
