Apple’s iPhone SE 2 Model Numbers Spotted; Expected Launch In 2018 WWDC

A newly leaked information has appeared on the internet, that American multinational technology company Apple will release an iPhone SE 2 in the upcoming future. The smartphone will be an upgrade to 2016’s iPhone SE. The past few months have indicated that the company will make an announcement regarding the upcoming device soon. In the latest rumor, French website Consomac reported that Apple has recently registered several unreleased iPhone model numbers with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), a Russian-language regulatory organization.

The French online publication revealed that the model numbers are A1920, A1921, A1984, A2097, A2098, A2099, A2101, A2103, A2104, A2105 and A2106. Even according to the filing, each model number represents an Apple-branded smartphone running iOS 11.

The information might not be 100% true, as Apple sometimes uses different model numbers for the same type of iPhone. The iPhone X is equipped with the model number A1865, A1901, and A1902. The model numbers are based on the smartphone’s carrier and which country it is sold in. Basically, the filing does obviously mean one or more new iPhones. But they don’t inform us the number of new iPhones we will end up seeing finally.

To keep our hopes high, there could be a chance that some of those model numbers could belong to the much-speculated iPhone SE 2. Apple fans have been expecting this for quite some time. The smaller iPhone SE is the company’s one phone which is in contrast to the larger and more expensive iPhones. It can compete with the cheaper Android smartphones.

The iPhone SE was released by Apple in March 2016. It was released again a year later, with more storage. The iPhone SE line hasn’t had much of a major upgrade since the storage expansion. It is not like other iPhones due to its small 4-inch size and cheaper price tag. In India, the device starts at Rs. 18,999 approximately, and in the US it starts at $349.

This isn’t the first time that Apple has filed a product through EEC and it has led to a rumble of clues and rumours. In 2017, a filing for MacBooks had surfaced in May. A few weeks later, the company unveiled those new MacBooks at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). EEC filings for the new 9.7-inch iPad had also appeared in February, and then it was finally announced in March.

By examining such similar incidents in the past, we can expect the iPhone SE 2 or new iPhone models in the upcoming months. It could probably appear in Apple’s 2018 WWDC event which is scheduled at 4th June 2018.

Apple hasn’t yet officially confirmed this newly leaked information, but we could very see the iPhone SE 2 release soon enough.
