The new smartphone is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM. The 8GB internal storage can be further expanded via a micro SD card (up to 64GB). The 2,250mAh battery is touted to last one and a half days.

In terms of optics, the Lava Z40 sports a 2-megapixel rear camera sensor with an LED flash. It also sports a 2-megapixel front camera with an LED flash. Camera features include a Bokeh mode.

The Lava Z40 runs Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) operating system. Connectivity options include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The dual-SIM (Nano) smartphone features a 4.0-inch TN display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 400 x 800 pixels. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The handset measures 125.5 x 63.9 x 11.65mm.

The Lava handset supports 10 Indian languages (including Hindi). Additional features include a K7 external audio PA speaker.

Recently, the company launched the Lava Z92 smartphone in India at Rs 9,999. The budget smartphone features a display notch, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 3,260mAh battery. Additionally, it comes with a smart AI studio mode for seamless game playing.
