Lenovo-owned Motorola launched its Moto X4 smartphone in November last year. The new handset comes with dual cameras, front flash, Snapdragon 630 SoC, IP68-rating (dust and water resistance) and Amazon Alexa support. Price and Availability

Price Rs 24,999

The Moto X4 6GB RAM variant is priced in India at Rs 24,999. It comes in Sterling Blue and Super Black colour options. The new variant will be available via Flipkart and Moto Hub stores from January 31.

As part of launch offers, Flipkart is offering a flat discount of Rs 1,500 to ICICI Bank credit card customers (until Feb 2). You can get an additional Rs 3,000 discount via an exchange offer. Vodafone users can get a bundled data offer (up to 490GB data free on recharges of Rs 199). No-cost EMIs are also available.

Previously, the Moto X4 is available in two variants – 3GB RAM / 32GB internal storage variant and 4GB RAM / 64GB storage variant. While the 3GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage variant is priced at Rs 20,999, the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant will cost you Rs 22,999. The new handset was initially launched at EUR 399 (approx Rs 30,500).

The Moto X4 features a 5.2-inch LTPS IPS display with full-HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution, 424ppi pixel density, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor. The internal storage can be expanded via a micro SD card (up to 2TB). It is backed by a 3000mAh non-removable battery with Fast Charge 3.0 support. When coupled with a 15W TurboPower charger, the new handset can get up to 6 hours of power in just 15 minutes of charge.

On the camera front, the new handset features dual camera setup with color correlated temperature (CCT) dual-LED flash and phase detection autofocus (PDAF). It combines a 12-megapixel dual autofocus sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1.4-micron pixels with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor with a 120-degree field of view, f/2.2 aperture, and 1.12-micron pixels. Other features include an ultra-wide angle shot, depth detection and depth effects, Selective Focus, selective Black & White, background replacement, panorama mode, and slow-motion video. The rear camera can also scan barcodes, QR codes, and business cards. It can also recognize landmark/ objects.

The Moto X4 also features a 16-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture, 1-micron pixels and LED flash. It comes with features like adaptive low light mode, professional mode, selfie panorama, beautification mode, and face filters.

The Moto X4 smartphone sports a metal (aluminium) unibody design with a dual camera setup on the back. It measures 148.35 x 73.40 x 7.99mm and weighs 163 grams. The Moto handset comes with an IP68 rating (water and dust resistance). It can be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. A fingerprint scanner is placed on the home button. Other sensors on the phone include a proximity sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and ambient light sensor. The new smartphone comes in two color options – Super Black and Sterling Blue.

The single-SIM smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system out of the box (the 6GB variant is expected to run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box). It comes with Amazon Alexa support that allows users to carry out a voice-based search. However, this feature won’t be accessible until Amazon releases the Moto Alexa app in India.

Other features include Moto experiences (gestures like a 3-finger swipe for a screenshot), Moto Key (inbuilt password manager), one-button navigation, Moto Display, and Moto Voice. The Bluetooth support allows you to sync with four speakers or headphones at one time. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, GLONASS, FM radio support, USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Verdict

The Moto X4 is being touted as the ‘first smartphone running on the new Snapdragon 630 SoC to be launched in India.’ The new handset seems to pack pretty decent specifications and features.
