Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Launched With In-display Fingerprint Scanner

Xiaomi has launched a new Pro variant of its Mi 8 smartphone in China. The new model comes with a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint sensor. Other specs remain the same as the Xiaomi Mi 8. The new Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is priced in China at CNY 3,199 (approx Rs 34,000) for the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant. An 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage model comes with a price tag of CNY 3,599 (approx Rs 38,200). It will be available from September 21. However, there is no information about an Indian launch date or price as yet.

The new variant comes with identical features to the original Mi 8 model. It features a 6.21-inch AMOLED display with full-HD+ (1080 x 2248 pixels) resolution, an 18.7:9 aspect ratio and 88.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. The new handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor along with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The 3,400 battery supports Quick Charge 4.0+.

In terms of optics, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro sports a dual rear camera setup on the back. It uses two 12-megapixel sensors with 1.4-micron pixels, four-axis OIS, and dual pixel autofocus. Additional features include AI Portrait and AI scene detection. The 20-megapixel front camera comes with a f/2.0 aperture.

The dual-SIM smartphone runs Android Oreo operating system with MIUI 10 on top. The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is replaced by an in-display fingerprint sensor. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, dual-frequency GPS and USB Type-C.

The handset measures 154.9 x 74.8 x7.6mm. It comes in a transparent back option (seen on Mi 8 Explorer Edition) and gradient color options. Sensors on the device include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared, and a proximity sensor.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi 8 was launched in May at CNY 2,699 (approx Rs 28,600) for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB internal storage variant. While the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant is priced at CNY 2,999 (approx Rs 31,600), the 6GB RAM/ 256GB storage costs CNY 3,299 (approx Rs 34,800). The company also announced an Explorer Edition with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. It is priced at CNY 3,699 (approx Rs 39,000).
