The Huawei foldable smartphone expected to be announced at MWC (February 24, 2019) in Barcelona. The company has already started sending press invites for the launch event. It hints at the foldable design with a focus on smartphone’s hinge.

According to recent leaks and rumors, the upcoming handset is expected to come with an in-house HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC and the Balong 5000 modem. The 5G smartphone is tipped to feature a 7.2-inch display. In the initial phase, Huawei is said to manufacture between 24,000 and 30,000 units of the upcoming smartphone.

Conclusion

The new handset will go against the Samsung’ foldable smartphone which will be launched at a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 20 (alongside the Galaxy S10 series). It is likely to be priced at around Rs 120,000. It will essentially work as a 2-in-1 tablet. The 7.29-inch display that will fold it into a smaller form factor (4.58 inch). It will come in a Silver color option.

In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy F Foldable Phone will sport a triple camera setup (a dual camera setup + third super wide-angle lens), similar to the upcoming Galaxy S10 series. It will come with 512GB internal storage. While the upcoming smartphone is tipped to come with 5G support, it might not feature a fingerprint sensor due to technical constraints. Additional features will include Bixby 3.0.

Foldable devices seem to be the latest trend in the smartphone market. While LG is planning to launch a new foldable smartphone at MWC 2019 next month, other brands (Oppo, Motorola, and Xiaomi) are also working on the new form factor. Recently, Royole FlexPai was launched as the world’s first foldable smartphone.

The Royole FlexPai is priced at $1300 (approx Rs 95,200) for the base model. The new handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 processor (yet to be announced by Qualcomm) along with Adreno 640 GPU and 6GB/ 8GB RAM. The 128GB/ 256GB /512GB internal storage can be further expanded via a microSD card (up to 256GB).

The Royole FlexPai sports a dual camera set up in the back (16MP primary sensor + secondary 20MP telephoto lens with an f/1.8 aperture). It is backed by a 3,800mAh battery with support for 5V/5A fast charging via their proprietary Ro-Charge technology.
