Recent reports claimed that the Xiaomi already replaced the Redmi Note 5 with the Redmi 5 Plus. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to feature a similar price tag as the Redmi Note 4. The 3GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage variant is tipped to cost 1,200 Yuan (approx Rs 11,800). While the 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant will be priced at or 1,400 Yuan (approx Rs 13,800) and 1,500 Yuan (approx Rs 14,800), respectively.

The Chinese firm has not announced a launch date for the upcoming smartphone. It is expected to come in the second quarter of 2018.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is expected to feature a 5.99-inch 2.5D curved glass display with Full HD+ resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels). It was tipped to come with a 2.0GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. However, new reports claim that the upcoming handset will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor. This might be the reason behind the delay in the launch date.

The new Qualcomm processor is likely to feature lower-clocked GPU than Snapdragon 636 chipset. However, it is expected to retain the Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP which works better with dual-camera setups than the Snapdragon 625. The internal storage could be further expanded via micro SD card (up to 128GB).

On the camera front, the Redmi Note 5 is tipped to feature a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera. Previous reports had hinted at a dual-camera setup (16MP + 5MP) on the back and a 12-megapixel front camera. The upcoming handset is expected to be backed by a 4,000mAh non-removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is likely to run Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system with MIUI 9 on top.Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, dual-SIM support, a 3.5mm audio jack and IR blaster.

According to a TENAA listing, the Redmi Note 5 will sport a bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be available in multiple color options – black gold, white, blue, red, gray, silver, gold and rose gold.

As per leaked renders, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 sports a metal unibody design (similar to Redmi Note 3 and Note 4) with thin bezels. While the capacitive navigation buttons are located on the front, a fingerprint sensor is placed on the back.  It will measure 158.5 x 75.4 x 8mm and weighs 180 grams.
