Oplus launched its 7 inch tab called Oplus Xonpad 7 with premium specs and not so premium price earlier this year. Now around the mid of 2014, we see another high-value-for-money phone coming from the house of Oplus called the Oplus Xonphone 5. The ideology behind this product is also the same as we saw with the Xonpad 7, which aims at bringing high value features at low cost to the customers. The first thing which comes to out mind when we hear such things is that the product may be sub-standard, as it is selling for lower than the competition products, but that is not true. As per my personal experience with the Xonpad 7, I can tell that the brand did not cut any corners when it comes to product quality. However, to keep the price this competitive, they have saved on the distribution and sales network cost by partnering with one of the leading online sellers in India, Snapdeal.
How Come Such Low Price?
Selling phones only via e-commerce is a trend which is catching up in India. We have seen such launches very frequently in last one year by many global and Indian brands, like Motorola, Xiaomi, DigiFlip to name a few. This not only saves on sales cost, but also ensures fast and speedy delivery of products to customer at a very competitive cost.
Oplus Xonphone Features And Specifications
Coming back to the phone, the Oplus Xonphone 5 is a compelling phone when it comes to features and specs. To start with, it has latest android version which is Android Kit-Kat 4.4.2. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core CPU, has 1GB RAM, a 5 Inch HD IPS Display with OGS technology which we have seen only in high priced devices so far.
Apart from that it also has dual camera, the rear cam is an 8 MP camera with LED Flash, auto-focus, Full HD video recording etc. The front cam is a 2 MP camera which is an advantage as you can do high quality video calls. There is 16 GB internal memory, microSD card slot with up to 32GB additional memory support. The dimensions are also a highlight as its just 7.8 mm thick which is almost the same as Samsung Galaxy S4.
It comes loaded with connectivity features, supports 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other standard connectivity options. Also the sensors used include Accelerometer, proximity sensor, light sensor for automatic display brightness, G sensor for motion gaming and also e-compass for better navigation features.
Pricing And Availability
The Xonphone 5 has been launched exclusively on Snapdeal at a price of Rs 7,999.
Oplus Xonphone 5 seems better in specs compared to the likes of Micromax Unit 2, Lava Iris X1 and the Moto E. Its closer to the devices in a segment above like the Moto G, Micromax Canvas series and other phones which are usually priced above Rs. 10,000. At Rs. 8,000 it is one of the best options that you can get your hands on without waiting endlessly.
