Following the success of the HTC One, the Taiwanese company has shrunk its flagship device, in the form of the HTC One Mini. In a bid to prove that “bigger is not always better”, it’s HTC’s way of venturing into the miniature smartphone market. Since the launch of the Galaxy S4 Mini, what can this palm-sized Android contender offer in the mobile phone arena? Let’s find out.
Keeping the premium aluminum build, the Mini was brought down to a handier size of 4.3-inch from the original’s 4.7-inch display. It’s 5mm slimmer and 20 grams lighter than its big brother. Perhaps, the only difference in the design is the white plastic band clad around its edge, which breaks up the aluminum embellishment at the top and bottom parts of its back. This provides an added protection on the device.
Opera Mini one of the mobile browser to be launched in the market by Opera Software group. Facts prove that Opera has always been the favorite alternate mobile browser by its consumers and even by the OEMs. Opera was known to be working on a rebuild with a complete UI overhaul and ditching the flash browser for webkit engine. They had also released a public beta to get people try out the new app, report bugs and performance so that they can improve and bring a stable browser for public release. Recently on 21st May 2013 the Opera Mobile finally updated to the new version with beta program running side-by-side for further upgrades. The iPad mini rivaling Galaxy Note 510 or Galaxy Note 8.0 has just gone on sale in India and the device can be ordered from Samsung’s estore for Rs.30,900. The tablet comes in two variants, Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+3G. The Galaxy Note 8.0 has basically the same heart as the Galaxy Note 2 but it has a much bigger screen to power instead. The Galaxy Note 8.0 as the name suggests has a 8.0 inch screen which is a 720p display unit.
Under the hood is a 1.6GHz quad core Exynos processor of Cortex A9 architecture. It will join hands with 2 gigs of RAM to help it multitask pretty well. The tablet runs on the latest version of Android, 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and it is highly likely that will get updates in future as well. The tablet supports calling functionality and in addition to it, has the much famed S-Pen integrated neatly into its back which offers a slew of software goodies.

When Samsung first introduced the Galaxy S2, the 4.3 inch size seemed just too big way back in 2011 but who knew smartphones would one day have a size north of 5 inches. Now that the S4 is about to hit the stores in April end, Samsung has quietly slipped in the refreshed version of its two year old flagship, the Galaxy S2 Plus. The showcased it in India in the first week of April and now it gets a price tag as well.
The S2 Plus will sell for Rs.22,900 as per some online retailers but we expect the prices to come down in near future and the offline stores are expected to sell it at a lower price. The smartphone as the same 4.3 inch screen of 800×480 pixels resolution as the S2 but the changes come in under the hood. The S2 Plus gets a 1.2 GHz dual core Broadcomm processor with a Broadcomm GPU whereas the S2 came with an Exynos processor ticking at 1.2 GHz.
NXG Electronics Pvt Ltd on 27 January 2013 launched their new phablet the XFAB 2 MINI retaining its best features from its predecessor the XFAB. It has a super sleek design measuring 138x70mm and weighing 200 grams which makes it comfortable for daily use. It features a dual core cortex A9 chipset clocked at 1Ghz with 1GB RAM combined together for maximum performance output. The XFAB 2 MINI sports a 4.7-inch IPS qHD display with 960×540 pixels resolution. The smart phone has a 12 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash which can shoot HD videos and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera enabling the video calls facility.
Swipe, the California based electronics manufacturer ventured into India in July 2013 with three Android tablets and then went on to launch smartphones in the market as well. And now, they’ve entered into a partnership with one of the most popular youth centric channels in the country, MTV and has launched the first smartphone under the new branding, the Swipe MTV Volt which is a 6 inch Android based phablet and will retail at a price of Rs.11,999.
