Airtel Rolls Back VoIP Data Packs, Unclear On Whether VoIP Charges Will Stay!

In an outrage which spread after Airtel mentioned that the VoIP calls, which are Slype, Viber, Google Hangout and other voice calls over data, will be charged over and above the data packs, Airtel had to finally come out with an official communication to clear its stand about Net Neutrality.

Updated on 29th December 2014

This morning we got another press note from Airtel India which is as follows:

In view of the news reports that a consultation paper will be issued shortly by TRAI on issues relating to services offered by OTT players including VOIP, we have decided not to implement our proposed launch of VoIP packs.

We have no doubt that as a result of the consultation process a balanced outcome would emerge that would not only protect the interests of all stakeholders and viability of this important sector but would also encourage much needed investments in spectrum and roll out of data networks to fulfil the objective of digital India.

Hindi Advertising Service Launched On Google Display Network

Language becomes one of the most important factors while communicating with others. Be it our home or office or time spent with friends, language helps us to interact with others effectively. Speaking about language, Hindi is known to be one of the most commonly spoken language in India as well as some other countries. Hindi makes a rich audience of around 500 million speakers across the world. Yet there are few fronts where Hindi language speakers lag behind due to lack of their knowledge of English language, one of them being Internet. Internet usage has been looked upon as a privilege for English speaking people and Hindi audience is devoid of the Internet use. Ad makers are often not able to post their ads in Hindi and some people do not understand ads posted in English. Keeping this in mind, Web search engine Google has introduced Hindi ads on its Display network. This Hindi Advertising Service launched on Google display network is expected to reach 500 million Hindi language speakers across the world. This move  from Google is to promote the languages across the world.

Why Ban On Xiaomi In India Is No Big Deal?

You must have read the news that the Delhi High Court has banned the import and selling of Xiaomi phones in India after a patent infringement case filed by Ericsson. If you have been worried because you just bought a Xiaomi phone or have ordered one recently, don’t worry too much. The reason I say this is because this is not the only patent infringement case in the world and this is not for the first time it has happened to a mobile phone brand in India. There have been similar infringement cases against brands like Micromax, Intex and a few more which never made it to news reports but were settled in or out of courtrooms in the past.

Earlier:

As reported by us earlier this week, OnePlus One is set to be launched in India exclusively on Amazon India. However things have steered from their usual course as CyanogenMod has granted exclusive rights for its software i.e. CyanogenMod OS in India to Micromax. What this means for OnePlus One and prospective buyers, read on to find out.

As stated on the official OnePlus One blog, Cyanogenmod has entered into an exclusive partnership with Micromax in India due to which, OnePlus One can’t continue with its usage (at least in India).

As a workaround, Cyanogenmod has promised their own ‘software solution’ based on Android Lollipop which will release in February 2015 along with a promised 2 year software support after release. They also suggested that OnePlus will continue to provide the same bloatware free, robust and customizable user experience to the user. Only time will tell how this will fare out.
