Its not even a day since reports started pouring in about the specifications of the Galaxy S4 mini and so soon the smartphone has been launched in London without much fanfare. Well, global smartphone leader Samsung has announced Galaxy S4 mini, a powerful and compact version of Galaxy S4.

Galaxy S4 mini is claimed to offer superior performance and intuitive user experience, while its sleek design makes it highly portable and compact, thereby making the smartphone an ideal companion for the daily life.

Commenting at the launch, JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communication, Samsung Electronics stated, “We appreciate such unprecedented demands for the GALAXY S4 that we aimed to provide users with life companion for a fuller, richer and simpler life. Samsung Galaxy S4 Active: Rugged Smartphone with 5-Inch 1080p Display and Quad-Core CPU Goes Official

The rumors mills have been abuzz in the last month or so with images and videos leaking of an alleged rugged version of the Galaxy S4, called the Galaxy S4 Active. Today, Samsung has announced a new variant of its Galaxy S4 – Galaxy S4 Active more suited to the great outdoors.

The smartphone has a high degree of dust and water protection (IP67), allowing it to be submerged in water up to a meter deep for up to 30 minutes. Inside, it has the same 1.9GHz quad-core processor and 2,600mAh battery, nestled behind the same 5.0-inch 1080p LCD screen as its less robust cousin.

Speaking of specifications, Galaxy S4 Active flaunts a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and 443 ppi pixel density. Also, it features the Samsung’s Glove Touch technology, which allows one to use the display even when wearing gloves.

Galaxy S4 Active is powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and includes features like an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel secondary camera, 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card and a 2,600mAh battery.

Connectivity-wise, the device supports 3G and includes features like Wi-Fi, IrDA, NFC, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 4.0. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean topped with Touch-Wiz Nature UX interface and comes pre-loaded with Samsung unique software seen on the Galaxy S4 like S Travel, S Translator, Group Play, Samsung Smart Pause, Air View and Air Gesture among others.

While tech titans like Apple prefer to launch high-end smartphones for consumers, native handset vendors focus on ultra low cost Android handsets with dual SIM support. One such vendor – MTS, who is a telco known for its connected devices has announced the launch of MTS Duet, which is priced at Rs 4,779.

Talking of specs, the MTS Duet packs a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 320×480 pixels and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. Further, the MTS Duet comes powered with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor and packs a 3-megapixel rear camera. Also, the smartphone has 512MB RAM, expandable storage up to 32GB and a 1,200 mAh battery.

Analyzing the specifications, it can be said that the MTS Duet can be a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Star, which has been recently launched in India at Rs 5,240. The Galaxy Star packs a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 320×240 pixels, 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM. Running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the smartphone comes with a 2-megapixel rear camera, 4GB internal storage and micro SD card up to 32GB. Further, Galaxy Star boasts connectivity aspects such as 2G, Bluetooth, micro USB and Wi-Fi and is loaded with a 1,200 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, Tab 3 10.1 Launched, Shipping to Global Markets from This Week

As Asus acquired the spotlight of Computex 2013, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab 3 in its 10.1 and 8-inch avatars. On specs front, it may not be ground breaking, but if one goes through the spec sheet of the 10.1 model one notices a dual-core 1.6GHz processor without any information of its make.

Going through the earlier rumors, it was speculated that the Galaxy Tab 3 lineup will come up with the Intel CloverTrail+ CPU and it just happens that the Intel Atom Z2560 chip is a dual-core chipset clocked at 1.6GHz, so the one used in the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 could be the same chipset.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8 on the other hand has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, which probably is not made by Intel and is likely based on ARM architecture. Other than this, both the tablets are traditionally Samsung.

The 10.1 model has a display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, it has a 3-megapixel rear camera and 1.3-megapixel front facing camera and is available in 32GB and 16GB variants, and the memory can be expanded further via the microSD card slot. It also has 1GB of RAM and a 6,800 mAh battery and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Samsung has really slimmed it down at 7.95 mm, and it weighs only 510 grams.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8, is even slimmer at 7.4mm and weighs just 314 grams. It also has a 1280×800 pixel display but at 8-inches it has a higher PPI than the 10.1-inch model. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front camera. It also has 1.5GB of RAM and a microSD card slot supporting expansion by a further 64GB. Battery wise, there is an 4,450 mAh battery. Like the 10.1-inch model it runs on Android 4.2.

Samsung says, both the tablets will be offered in Wi-Fi only, and 3G and LTE (dependent on markets) enabled versions. Both the tablets will be shipping globally by the beginning of June.
